A Week Spent Skiing In Sölden, Austria

A Week Spent Skiing In Sölden, Austria

What is better than snowboarding, drinking a flying hirsch on top of a snow capped mountain, and warming up with a hot meal after a long day of skiing? Well, not much in my opinion! Sölden is a ski town in the beautiful Tyrol region of Austria. It sits nestled comfortably in the Alps between what's known as the Big Three, the Gaislachkogl, the Tiefenbachkogl, and the Schwarze Schneide, which are all mountains that are over three thousand meters in height. In Photos: A Look Back at My 2013 European Travel

Here's a look back on some of my favorite photos from 2013, and my favorite memories as well. It was a great year of travel for me. Some people manage to travel nearly every weekend. While I don't travel nearly that much, I still try to go somewhere about every six to eight weeks. I also am not one to do extreme budgeting when I'm visiting a new place. I like to go to the restaurants and try the food, have my own room to sleep in (and usually we use airbnb.com and have an entire apartment to ourselves), and I also don't mind paying for a tour to learn new information.

Spending Two Days In Salzburg - Austria

Spending Two Days In Salzburg - Austria

Salzburg is a beautiful city with a long pedestrian downtown area. Classical music takes the stage here as this is the birthplace of Mozart and his house can be easily seen from the pedestrian area. Live classical music is played at the castle overlooking the city and this is also where the Sound of Music was filmed. There are many tours that run daily to take you to these famous landmarks. Even though Salzburg is rather touristy, I love visiting this city, walking around, heading up to the castle to capture panoramic views of the area below and beyond, and learning something new each time I'm here.

Our trip to Innsbruck, Austria

Our trip to Innsbruck, Austria

I think my husband and I have a love affair with the Alps. See, we've never really been beach goers. I like the beach, it's nice to walk along and the beach bars are always fun (and generally overpriced as well), but for us the mountains is where we would rather be. Maybe it's because I grew up in Alaska, but I think it is more than that. I love the crisp air of the mountains. I especially love having these huge masses of rock formations jutting out of the ground and surrounding me.
