Winter's Delight: The Beautiful Königsee and St. Bartholomew's Church

Winter's Delight: The Beautiful Königsee and St. Bartholomew's Church

We visited the beautiful German Alps region southeast of Munich the other weekend. My husband had been skiing that week so I drove down Friday night after work so we could explore the area together and visit Berchesgaden. He was in a quiet small town that didn't have much for us to do, but made for some really beautiful shots in the morning. The fog had rolled in and was blanketing the landscape quite nicely. The town was so small that I think there was only one restaurant which lucky for us was quite fantastic.

In Photos: A Look Back at My 2013 European Travel

Here's a look back on some of my favorite photos from 2013, and my favorite memories as well. It was a great year of travel for me. Some people manage to travel nearly every weekend. While I don't travel nearly that much, I still try to go somewhere about every six to eight weeks. I also am not one to do extreme budgeting when I'm visiting a new place. I like to go to the restaurants and try the food, have my own room to sleep in (and usually we use airbnb.com and have an entire apartment to ourselves), and I also don't mind paying for a tour to learn new information.

Visiting Neuschwanstein Castle in The Winter

Visiting Neuschwanstein Castle in The Winter

We were heading back today from our Christmas vacation to Sölden, Austria and decided to stop by Neuschwanstein since it was on the way. Neuschwanstein castle has a funny name, but you know it once you see it. It's quite possibly the most famous castle in all the world. Walt Disney modeled the Cinderella castle after Neuschwanstein and with good reason, it's very beautiful and the setting is both dramatic and magical. Even in the winter time it's just as pretty to visit, not only for the castle but also for the views overlooking the valley below and beyond.

The Beautiful Christmas Market At Hohenzollern Castle

The Beautiful Christmas Market At Hohenzollern Castle

I've been researching Christmas markets in the area to visit because after this year we only have one more year to check out all the beautiful markets before we are heading back to the states. I came across the Christmas market that's held at Hohenzollern castle. The castle is located in the Swabian Alb and is set on a mountaintop overlooking the area. Personally I think it rivals the famous Neuschwanstein and is much less touristy, which is always a plus. The castle is roughly an hour south of Stuttgart and is well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Hiking In The Swabian Alb

Hiking In The Swabian Alb

Back in September when everything was still green a friend and I decided to go for a hike somewhere in the Swabian Alb. The Swabian is a huge area East of Stuttgart that runs south down to Lake Constance. There is a great website, http://www.schwaebischealb.de/ , that can be translated to English using Google translate services or something similar.

Photo Catchup: A Visit To Neuschwanstein

Photo Catchup: A Visit To Neuschwanstein

If you happen to read my blog (thank you by the way!) you might have seen that I took a trip to Italy in May with my sister. We drove down to Lake Garda and Venice. I loved Lake Garda with all my heart and wish I could just move there and live and that's what I would do forever until I turned gray. I'm not going to do that, but you should, it's amazing there! Anyway, on the way back we stopped at Neuschwanstein.
