Since we moved here last year, I’ve learned a few things about traveling without paying extravagant prices. I’ve listed my favorite options below:
This site offers inexpensive places to stay all over the world. People can sign up to host their place and rent out on a nightly basis. Some people have extra bedrooms at their place they rent out, and other simply rent their entire place out. You can read exactly what you will be getting, check out photos and reviews as well. It’s a great way to get a more personal travel experience and many of the places rent their room/apartment out starting at $50 per night. So instead of getting a small hotel room outside of the main attractions without extra amenities, you can stay at a downtown apartment with a full kitchen, living room, laundry etc.
if you haven’t heard of RyanAir and are planning on traveling in Europe, this site is a must! They offer extremely low flights, many starting at 10Euro per person. The only catch is that they will get you on baggage so plan to travel light. They also fly into airports that are somewhat off the beaten path. For example, if you are flying into Frankfurt, you won’t fly into the main International Airport. It flies into a smaller airport about an hour north. Don’t let this sway you from flying, though, most of these airports offer a shuttle, bus or train service to the city. Just make sure you do your research before you fly. It is definitely worth it if you want to travel around without shelling out a lot of cash, and in many cases it’s even cheaper than the trains (depending on which country you are in).
I love this website for one huge reason, they offer what is called Blind Booking. As the name implies, you book one of their package options and will get a choice of 5-10 places you might end up flying to. Once you book, it tells you where you are going. The best part? It’s only 60 Euro round trip. In addition, you can select cities you don’t want to go to for an extra 5 Euro per city. So theoretically, for under 100 Euro, you can select down to a few places that you might end up going to (you have to have at least 2 options). Sounds like fun right?! I have yet to try this out, but I cannot wait to see where I’m flying to!
