Frauen Parking in Germany

This is one of those things that you won’t readily find in a book but is a regular occurrence in Germany. Nearly every single parking garage in Germany reserves the top floor of the parking area for women. Pregnant women, single women, groups of women…it doesn’t matter as long as it’s only women in the car.

This is done as a safety precaution for women; if they went shopping for the day or met up with a friend for dinner, they’re vehicle is close to the exit and security. Recently some people have argued over the merits of these parking spaces but they were originally added with safety in mind. Germany is generally a very safe place but bad things still happen here. I take advantage of this every time I’m out by myself.

There is often a security guard to make sure you’re following the rules. If you try to park there with a male in the car you are almost sure to get yelled at.
